Boy Band Mastermind Gets Jail Time

The boy band era is really, truly, officially dead. Lou Pearlman, the guy who put the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync together, was sentenced today to 25 years in federal prison for scamming investors for $300 million since the early '80s. Hey, dance lessons and frosted tips don't come cheap.

The Associated Press reports that Pearlman -- who pled guilty to money laundering, presenting a false claim in bankruptcy court, and two counts of conspiracy in March -- can get his sentence reduced one month for every $1 million he returns.

Pearlman, who took a majority of the money from family, friends, and retirees, told the court today, "Over the past nine months since my arrest I've come to realize the harm that's been done. I'm truly sorry and I apologize for what's happened."
