Psst! Peyton's Punk Roots Revealed?

Sometimes we can't verify a story, but it sounds so good we just have to share. We don't know if this story is true, but folks are talking about it and we want you to know about it!

"One Tree Hill"'s Peyton Sawyer, like most of the teens in the small North Carolina town that plays host the show's drama, has a few parental issues. She's got an adoptive mother (dead: car accident). A birth mother (dead, after reconnecting with Peyton: cancer). And an adoptive father (nowhere to be seen: off fishing or something).

Now Entertainment Weekly reports that the last remaining Sawyer 'rent is coming to Tree Hill next season. John Doe, of the punk band X, has been cast as the mystery man musician Mia met (OMG, alliteration overload!) on her tour last year. The guy said he knew Peyton's birth mom Ellie -- which led us to think he just might be her birth dad.

It would certainly explain her rocking roots. And if her dad needs a defense for where he's been all this time, we think the answer's in his own "Los Angeles" lyrics -- he had to get ooooowwwt, and then got confused flying over the dateline. Duh.
