"Men in Black," "Men in Trees" ... and now, "Men in Skirts"? That's the name of a group of French activists -- actually, it's "Hommes en Jupe" in the language of love -- who are standing up for the right of men to free their lower limbs from the tyranny of the trouser.
The knee-baring crusaders are based in Poitiers, in the west of France, and their fearless leader is a 39-year-old government employee, Dominique Moreau ("hmm"-worthy factoid: Dominique can be either a man's or a woman's name). He said in London's Guardian newspaper: "Today, millions of men around the world wear skirts, like the sarong in Asia or the djellaba in Africa, without being bothered. Why not us?" But the question that's still bugging us is not so much "why not?" as "pour quoi"? Why on Earth would men want to wear skirts? Do they have a burning desire to inflict hairy, bony shins upon the world?
