"Gossip Girl" -- "Very Bad For You"

You know how shocked/appalled/intrigued you are by those new "Gossip Girl" ads that highlight the show's -- ahem -- baser qualities? Well it should come as no surprise that the CW's marketing team has played you. Like Georgina Sparks played Dan, before Serena, Chuck, Blair, and Nate played her.

How'd they do it? Network executive vice president Rick Haskins told the Associated Press, it's all about "what we call OMG moments that I think all soap opera fans like to watch." Umm, get on message, Rick! Those are omFg moments (winks!).

As to the condemnation of the show (and its ads) by family groups and really, anyone who stops enjoying the stuffing out of it long enough to think about it, Haskins said: "I'm very happy that we have created a provocative campaign. And I think like anything that's provocative, you're going to have your fans and you're going to have your critics." The important thing, he adds, is that "the fans are going to be the people that are going to watch the show."

Hopefully for him, that's more people than last year. Despite the incredible buzz (recently cemented by six Teen Choice Award wins on Monday night), the show's ratings are fairly low.

Which may not be "every parent's nightmare" as the ads claim, but it's certainly every SOAPnet staffer's -- we heart this show!
