A "Spectacular!" Turn for "The Young and the Restless" Star

Tammin Sursok, who plays Colleen Carlton on "The Young and the Restless," is about to burst into song. But not in "Young and the Restless"–the 24-year-old has been cast as the lead in Nickelodeon's new musical comedy "Spectacular!"

"Spectacular!" focuses on a preppy student (Tammin), who's part of her high school's choir (described as "Spectacular!"). She's trying to save the group, whose members have graduated or been lured away by rival choruses. (Who knew choruses were so hardcore?) When Tammin's character meets a young rocker (played by newcomer Nolan Funk), she thinks he's the answer to putting "Spectacular!" back on top. Prep meets punk? We smell romance.

Tammin's no stranger to singing: Her 2005 debut album, "Whatever Will Be," made the Top 15 on the charts, and scored three hit singles, in her native Australia.

The musical is set to start shooting on April 21. So does that mean Colleen is saying bye-bye to Genoa City and smart-cute Prof. Adrian Korbel (Eyal Podell)? Nope: Nickelodeon and CBS are part of the same corporate family, so they'll work it out.

Are you thinking this sounds a little like Disney's massively successful "High School Musical"? Nickelodeon says "Spectacular! will be different from "High School Musical," in that all the musical numbers will be performance-based –whereas "High School Musical" characters burst into song in everyday life.

Did you ever sing with your high school choir?
