Color us excited. SOAPnet's about to heat up the ice with its new scripted show, "MVP: The Secret Lives of Hockey Wives."
The show is set in Toronto, Ontario, Canada -- where hockey goes beyond pastime into national religion. At the center of "MVP" are top team the Mustangs, their wives, and "puck bunnies" -- girls who hang around outside the locker room looking for more than just an autograph. Expect sex, slapping, great clothes, hot guys, and more sex.
Creator and exec producer Mary Young Leckie said the show is inspired by, although not a direct adaptation of, the mega-successful British soap "Footballers Wives." The U.K. show was a smash for BBC America thanks to its mix of sexiness and outrageous plot twists. If that's the blueprint, we can't wait for "MVP."
"MVP" marks SOAPnet's second venture into scripted drama. The first, "General Hospital: Night Shift," was a huge success and scored the highest ratings the network has seen.
Expect "MVP" to be glossier. "This is the first time we are going to have a primetime soap with real primetime production values," said Brian Frons, president of Daytime at Disney-ABC Television Group.
Does "MVP" sound like a winner to you?
