Huh?
The Daytime Emmy nominations aired live on "The View" today, and, like "Hot Topics," there were a lot of surprises. Primarily in who we're not seeing on the list.
Let's start by congratulating all the nominees. In daytime, it's especially tough to deliver quality material, because the pace is super-fast. Most shows do 250 episodes a YEAR. So, it's nice that so many talented people were recognized.
But where the heck were some others? Here's our thinking on the picks for Supporting Actress:
Gina Tognoni managed to take a kinda ridiculous story -- Dinah gets brain damage from a bullet to the head -- and make it believable. But wait a second ... people in Springfield get shot all the time! Still, she made it seem extra-realistic. And we LOVE Kelley Menighan Hensley on "As the World Turns." Her Emily is a hot mess, and therefore our kind of girl (hooker, attempted murderer, potential psycho ... bring it).
But where's Kathy Brier, so great as Marcie on "One Life to Live"? What with learning that her adopted son was Todd's, finding out her husband knew about it, losing custody, AND going on the run, she had the material -- and she delivered. And Marcy Rylan has really grown into the role of Lizzie on "Guiding Light." She's taken her character from one-dimensional princess to actual human being. Plus, we love when she acts with her little froo-froo dog, Roxie.
What role did Judi Evans ("Days of Our Lives?") get nominated for? Trashy Bonnie or saintly Adrienne? It shows her range, but enquiring minds want to know what sealed the deal.
