When Whoopi Met Tony

Whoopi Goldberg -- one of the few people in history to win an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a Grammy, an Emmy, AND a Tony -- is revisiting the latter awards ceremony, this time as host. She's been tapped to helm the 62nd annual Tony Awards, set for a CBS broadcast on June 15. The Tonys (full name: the American Theatre Wing's Antoinette Perry Awards -- but no one ever calls 'em that) celebrate and acknowledge the best of Broadway. In other words, they're like the Oscars for the theater world. Whoopi announced the news today on "The View."

Whoopi -- who won a Tony for producing 2002's "Thoroughly Modern Millie" -- joins the ranks of previous emcees like Hugh Jackman, Matthew Broderick, and Rosie O'Donnell (herself a onetime co-host of "The View"). And she has plenty of awards show experience; she hosted the Oscars in 1994, 1996, 1999, and 2002.

The week of June 15 could wind up being very big for Ms. Goldberg; she'll be hosting the Tonys, and she may win an award of her own: a Daytime Emmy. She and her "View" cohorts are up for Outstanding Talk Show Host, and the show is nominated for Outstanding Talk Show (Entertainment). If Whoopi wins, it'll be her second Daytime Emmy -- she won in 2002 for hosting "Beyond Tara: The Life of Hattie McDaniel."

BTW, if you want a list of Daytime Emmy nominees, check our listings.

Nominees for the Tony Awards will be announced May 13 by previous winners David Hyde Pierce and "Grey's Anatomy" star Sara Ramirez (yup -- Callie won a Tony in '05).
