Carly vs. Sonny

Michael's (Dylan Cash) shooting -- and resulting coma -- on "General Hospital" has been great TV, in no short part because Laura Wright (Carly) and Maurice Benard (Sonny) have been delivering such strong performances. They've really been churning out the anger, anguish, and self-blame over their son's injuries. It's Soap gold.

So it's natural, in all this confusion, that Carly plans to ask Sonny to sign away parental rights to the other son they share, Morgan. This decision came after a frank talk between Carly and her current hubs, Jax (Ingo Rademacher); Carly wants her son safe, and blames herself for exposing him to Sonny's lifestyle as much as she blames Sonny's mob living. So she's taking action.

But is this the right move? We're totally torn here at SOAPnet.com. Obviously, Sonny does lead a dangerous life. How many times has the man been shot? Plus, it's not like there hasn't been collateral damage before (remember when Lily blew up?). So we get where Carly's coming from.

At the same time, isn't it kind of harsh to deny a father a right to his child? We know how deeply and totally Sonny loves his kids. We have to believe there's some other measure that can be taken ... more bodyguards, perhaps? Sonny giving up the life? Leaving Port Charles? OK, scratch that last one -- we can't imagine the show without Sonny.

As if this wasn't enough, there's the added complication of Kristina -- the daughter that Sonny shares with Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn). Given how horrified Alexis was at Michael's shooting, we have a feeling that she may support Carly in her case. Poor Sonny! (But lucky us, because those will be some seriously good scenes ... )

I love Carly ever since I was a little girl. You gotta see it from her side that her son got shot and he won't wake up ever. Carly in real life its hard because it can happen to her childern so her tears are real. I'd do the same if I was her.

What is the deal with the poor writing regarding Sam's character? I liked her at first; and now she's barely better than a bargain basement streetwalker. Although I do not like the actress who portrays Carly; the writing regarding Michael's accidental shooting and how Carly/Sonny are dealing with it is excellent. Maurice Bernard always steals the scene for me; but the intensity in his eyes speaks volumes!
