Beth Ehlers Leaves "Guiding Light"
May 16, 2008 5:25 PDT By Daniel R. Coleridge
Sad news for "Guiding Light" aficionados: As SOAPnet.com previously told you, rumors have been swirling that Beth Ehlers might skip out of Springfield. Turns out, it's true! The artist formerly known as Harley Davidson Cooper Spaulding Mallet Spaulding Aitoro has officially left the building.
Beth took a break from "Guiding Light" around the time her contract expired last month. She had been vocal about her disappointment with the show, specifically for the permanent break up of Harley and Gus, who was played by Ricky Paull Goldin.
In a recent e-mail to her fans, Beth wrote: "2008 was supposed to be the year of their reconciliation. Ricky and I both anticipated those scenes, to finally get the opportunity to fall in love again ... for all of you."
That will never happen, of course. Ricky Paull died on "Guiding Light" -- when Gus bit the dust in a motorcycle accident -- and the actor landed on "All My Children" as the new Dr. Jake Martin.
"Guiding Light" viewers will have to wait and see how Beth's stint as Harley ends. Currently, she's dating her niece's Australian ex-boyfriend, and suffering from those pesky panic attacks again. She's basically been hanging on by a thread for months, y'know?
Meanwhile, there's lotsa talk that the fan fave could be seen in a brand new soap role pretty soon. Stay tuned to SOAPnet.com to keep up with the latest ...
