Reason to get engaged #22: Badgley Mischka is making the move into the fine jewelry market, starting with a collection of 37 different styles of engagement rings. The pieces range from $1,800 to $5,000 -- rocks not included.
The label started by designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka in 1988 became known for wearable, glamorous evening dresses but now has fingers in almost every fashion pie -- from fragrance to bags and shoes. Since 1993, the Badgley Mischka bridal collection has been a key element of the business.
Explaining why the company was branching out into bling, Mark Badgley said: "We're diamond fanatics. Fine jewelry is such a logical expression of luxury. Customers of our couture all wear fine jewelry."
No one to pop the question? No problem. The betrothal baubles will be swiftly followed by a full jewelry line, starting at $2,000 for a small diamond and pearl piece and going all the way up to $250,000 for an extra-flashy ruby and diamond suite. So you can skip all that wedding planning/life-long commitment hassle and just treat yourself to something nice and shiny. It is the 21st century, after all.
How much would you spend on a piece of jewelry for yourself?
