Emmy Memories

Do you know when the first Daytime Emmy Awards took place? No? Then it's time for a TV trivia moment!

On a sunny day back in March 1974, the stars of daytime television sat down for a fancy outdoor luncheon at Rockefeller Center in New York City. Barbara Walters -- who was on the "Today" show then -- co-hosted the ceremony with "Hollywood Squares" host Peter Marshall. They even rode into the show together on a horse-drawn carriage. Again, it was very fancy.

So who won? Outstanding daytime drama went to "The Doctors." The best actor was "Days of our Lives" icon Macdonald Carey. (Y'know, the guy whose voice still intones "Like sands through the hourglass ... " at the top of every episode.) And Elizabeth Hubbard -- who currently stars as Lucinda on "As the World Turns" -- won best actress for her role as a lady M.D. on "The Doctors." Click here for a look back at all the fun.

Flashing back to the present: ABC will air the 35th Annual Daytime Emmys on Friday, June 20, at 8pm ET, live from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, CA. Be sure to watch the glitzy red carpet coverage on SOAPnet, starting at 6pm ET!
