"General Hospital" Wins Big at Daytime Emmys
June 23, 2008 10:49 PDT By Daniel R. Coleridge
After the winners leave the stage at the Daytime Emmy Awards, they tote their trophies backstage to meet the press. That's US! How lucky are we, right? Since "General Hospital" did so well this year, we were majorly enthused to talk with the show's big winners.
How did "General Hospital" executive producer Jill Farren Phelps feel about her soap's tenth win for Outstanding Drama Series? "Obviously, we were very happy," she said with a grin. "We were very disappointed that alot of our really great actors didn't get nominated this year -- but we can get over that 'cause we won best show, so that's everybody!"
"General Hospital" icon Anthony Geary -- Luke! -- happily showed off his SIXTH Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor. We all saw his emotional reaction and acceptance speech on stage. But after so many wins, could Emmy ever get boring? Nah. "Soap operas are becoming a young person's game, so being nominated, I am excited," Tony told SOAPnet.com. "At my age, I get more excited with each nomination."
Extra congrats go to Tony for setting a new record: He's won more Lead Actor Emmys than anyone else in daytime!
