Every week, there are stories so fab that even after they're cruelly rejected by our despotic editor, we must share them with you. Just offbeat or downright bizarre, they're the links you forward to your friends, the songs you hum in the car, the catchphrases you weave into your everyday slang and find yourself using long after you remember where they came from.
This week: Staff Obsessions, the Musical!
1. That's How Bizarre WE Feel
What do you get when you combine hippies, the "Dean Martin Comedy Hour" and Carol Channing in a mini-skirt shouting "Here come the Fuzz!"? Seriously one of the most bizarre things ever. Which is, of course, why we are obsessed. Here's Carol singing "That's How Young I Feel" from "Mame," with the Love generation as back-up. It's worth it to watch Carol's strangely ageless performance of seriously complicated choreography. We know it was a while back, but when they taped this, was she 40? Was she 90? It's hard to tell...
2. So You Think You Can Step it Up and Dance with the Stars
How great is it that TV is Dance Central these days? We've already announced our obsession with "So You Think You Can Dance," and it's a love that grows weekly -- aided and abetted by Mary Murphy's wardrobe. One episode, she's a saloon barmaid, the next she's a disco ball ... anyways. We're ALSO all about "America's Best Dance Crew" on MTV. First, it's hosted by everyone's favorite shirtless "Saved by the Bell" alum, Mario Lopez. Second, it's judged by Shane Sparks, Lil' Mama (who cuts holes out of the top of her hats for her ponytail), and JC Chasez as "the serious one." And last, the dancing is altogether sick.
3. Once More, With Feeling
OK, imagine all these awesome things together: Neil Patrick Harris. Joss Whedon. Nathan Fillion. Music. The Internet. You've only just BEGUN to imagine the awesomeness of "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog." We think. Watch the trailer (linked above) and decide for yourself -- all we can say is that the brilliance of the "Buffy" musical, NPH's comic timing/run in "Rent," and Nathan Fillion's super-hotness has taught us to hope ...
