Fantasy Tulle

Just like ballet flats, tulle -- that silky, stiff, fluffy stuff tutus are made of -- tends to bring out the little-girl-dreamer in all of us. That's because the material is also used in wedding gowns, so it naturally inspires romance, fantasy, and fairy tales. And what girl doesn't want to feel ultra-femme every once in a while by wearing a beautifully imagined gown with layers of tulle? Even if there's no glass slipper in sight, you can layer a costume-y tutu over a simple tank top, just like Carrie does in the iconic opening sequence of "Sex and the City." You can't get more modern that that. For other contemporary love stories, see our slideshow of fantasy tulle.
