Whoopi Goes Back to Broadway!

Raise your hand if you've seen "Xanadu" on Broadway! We know you've all seen it on video -- most likely at a 7th grade sleepover -- but for those unfamiliar with the story, here's a quick recap: Kira (Olivia Newton-John) is one of the Greek muses who makes her way to modern day L.A. She encourages aspiring artist Sonny to open a roller disco (Xanadu) at which she performs. It's an addictive movie, featuring lots of rainbows and sparkles, and we totally had a sticker for it on our Trapper Keeper back in the day.

The Broadway musical opened on Broadway in 2007, starring Kerry Butler (remember her as kooky Claudia on "One Life to Live"?). It's just as fun as the movie, and now it's going to get even better because Whoopi Goldberg is joining the cast.

Starting July 29, Whoopi starts a six week engagement as Calliope, one of the muses that help open the roller disco. Yes, Whoopi Goldberg will help open a roller disco. And did we mention the part requires her to be on roller skates?

Whoopi's stoked. "What better way to stick my toe back on to the Broadway stage than to join the amazing cast of 'Xanadu'," she said. "It's such a fun show, and is definitely my sensibility, as written by the divine Douglas Carter Beane. For me, it's going to be unbelievable."

We totally want a sticker for our Trapper Keeper with Whoopi on it.
