Always had a penchant for quirky animated characters coming to life on the Great White Way? Well, if you can carry a tune -- and pull off that slick red-and-black bodysuit -- you may just have a shot at playing Spider-Man on Broadway.
Creators of the musical adaptation of the movie -- including "Lion King" director Julie Taymor and U2's Bono -- are holding open auditions for the lead roles of Peter Parker and Mary-Jane. The casting call describes Petey's role as "male, 16-20s, great Rock voice, can be nerdy with understated sex appeal, good sense of humor," while MJ should be "female, 16-20s, beautiful girl next door, strong pop/rock singing voice."
If you think you could rock the roles better than Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst did in the flick, then prepare 16 bars of a pop/rock song (may we suggest No Doubt's "Spiderweb"?) as well as a resume and photo (that's "headshot" to you actor types). The New York City auditions will be held Monday, July 28 from 10am to 5 pm at the famed Knitting Factory downtown.
Even if you break a leg, you should have seven to spare. Zing! OK, OK, we know. That was lame, even for us ...
