"One Life to Live" turned the big 4-0 yesterday -- and what better way to celebrate their fabulosity than to go to Wall Street? Which sounds really weird, we know, but trust us -- what transpired yesterday was SO COOL. We were there!
Here's what shook down: Erika Slezak (Viki), "OLTL" executive producer Frank Valentini, and ABC Daytime/SOAPnet president Brian Frons all rang the opening bell for the New York Stock Exchange, which is a big deal and quite an honor. We were lucky enough to tag along.
When you first walk in, you are personally escorted upstairs by a security guard. Which is crazy and sort of Secret Service-y, right? Then they take you to the most massive boardroom ever to wait for the 9:30am ringing of the bell. This boardroom -- which has a Faberge egg given to the NYSE by the Russian Tsars (!) -- used to be the original trading floor back in the day. Now it just has the most beautiful ornate, gold leaf walls and the most insane table you ever done seen. Walking in, we totally wanted to grab a clutch purse and pretend we were Alexis Carrington, storming into Denver-Carrington and firing everyone. In fact, we even said so to Erika Slezak -- and she was kind enough to NOT look at us like we're nuts. Also, there was a lot of food, everyone was so nice, and we all got fancy gold name plates and a cool commemorative coin ...
From there, we went down to the floor -- which is like the movie "Trading Places" but with more computers and less Eddie Murphy. It's controlled chaos. We felt like if we pressed a button, Sri Lanka's economy would collapse. Ultimately, we watched from the floor as Erika, Brian, and Frank rang the bell. Then the three came downstairs; tons of the runners and brokers recognized Erika, so she started signing autographs. Viki rules!
It was a great morning -- and a befitting honor for "One Life to Live."
Who would you like to see storm into a boardroom and fire everyone? More importantly, what should they be wearing? Leave us a comment below.
