So the agreeable professor told Stephen he could have his own spider species.
"Because names are important, it is quite an honor," the nutty professor told the AP. "I wouldn't name a species after him if I didn't think it was appropriate."
The news prompted more interrogation from Stephen. "So tell me about my spider," Colbert asked when the prof called into his show. "Does it shoot poison darts? Does it lay eggs in your ears?"
Luckily, it doesn't. Stephen's spider will be named "Aptostichus stephencolberti," with a silent T in "colberti." Natch!
