"As The World Turns" Names Its New Lily

Lily Snyder, the long-suffering (but well-dressed) heroine at the center of "As the World Turns," is about to get a makeover. Noelle Beck, best known to daytime fans for her role as Trisha McKenzie on "Loving," will begin appearing in the role some time in May or June.

Martha Byrne, who played Lily for the most of the last 23 years, recently exited the show in a flurry of controversy. The actress and producers couldn't reach an agreement on a new contract. The primary sticking point, according to Martha, was what's known as a "guarantee" -- the number of onscreen appearances promised an actor over the course of a week or month.

In the story, Martha-as-Lily will leave town for a trip. The character will return later, except she'll look like Noelle.

Martha had some words of wisdom for her successor: "Have fun. You'll be working with an incredible group of people who will support you and love you and make you feel at home and help you."

Noelle has popped up on many shows we love. She's played Mr. Big's ex-wife on "Sex and the City," Cilla on "Cashmere Mafia," and Jordan on "Central Park West." Will Noelle be good as Lily, or is Martha the one and only Ms. Snyder?
