Baby Love

It may be the Year of the Rat -- but here at SOAPnet, we're declaring it the Year of the Baby instead. July has been a veritable baby boom, with the celebrity tot count at a whopping five (thus far). So, while we're waiting for Ashlee Simpson and Ceren Alkac's mini-me debuts, we have the dish on the latest stars to discuss their own baby-making ambitions.

"Ugly Betty"'s Rebecca Romijn and her husband, actor Jerry O'Connell, celebrated their one year anniversary this month with the announcement that they're trying to get pregnant in public. OK, wait -- that came out wrong. They said, in public, that they're trying to get pregnant. Much better. Jerry also told People magazine that trying was "a lot of fun," which is way better than "such a chore."

In other maybe-baby news, Eva Longoria Parker recently raised some eyebrows when she put on a few pounds -- but her reps have said it's just for her role as five-years-in-the-future Gabrielle on "Desperate Housewives." Though she's only due to be a mommy on the show, that doesn't rule out the possibility of an off camera baby for Mrs. Tony Parker. She told People yesterday, "I can't wait [to start a family]!" And "Private Practice" star Taye Diggs also spilled to the mag that he and wife Idina Menzel (Tony winner for Broadway's "Wicked") are planning on becoming parents soon as well.
