Man, that Elizabeth Berkley is in demand. Hot on the heels of the announcement that she'll be playing "the straight girl that got away" on Showtime's "The L Word," we hear she's also scored her own MTV show that aims to help teenage girls with self-esteem issues.
The former "Saved by the Bell" star has been running self-esteem workshops aimed at teen girls for more than two years. In fact, Elizabeth even has her own advice column on her website, www.ask-elizabeth.com, where she addresses the adolescents' questions and concerns. She developed the program, which also takes her into schools across the country to conduct workshops, with her husband Greg Lauren (yup, he's Ralph's nephew).
"She does these workshops around the country with teen girls and gets them to really open up about self-esteem and body issues," MTV VP of development Amy Bailey told the Hollywood Reporter. "We had been looking for a program that tackled the same issues, so it seemed like a perfect match."
The plan is to shoot the pilot this fall. "It'll be more than just films of her workshops," MTV's Bailey added. "We'll film with Elizabeth and girls around the country in their own hometowns and watch as the events unfold."
A celeb doing something positive? That's refreshing. Hey MTV, we'd rather be her BFF any day.
