Community Guidelines

SOAPnet.com posting guidelines

The Lowdown

We want you to have fun here, but we also want to make sure "here" is a respectful environment for users. That includes behaving as you would in polite society, as they used to say, and protecting intellectual property such as company logos, TV shows, images, and movies. To those ends, the community is moderated (under the following guidelines), to ensure that all users respect these rights, as well as having a pleasurable and memorable experience.

These guidelines are a reference but they are hardly complete, and cannot substitute for good common sense.

The Specifics

First -- have an opinion, but be nice. Antisocial, disruptive, or destructive acts (e.g., "flaming," "spamming," "flooding," "trolling," and "griefing") have no place on the message boards. Along with advertising or selling products.

Next -- it may seem obvious, but you cannot impersonate someone else, misrepresent another user's identity, or use someone else's name, password, likeness, voice or photograph. Defamatory, abusive, bigoted, hateful or racially offensive remarks are grounds for removal.

And while you're not pretending to be someone else -- let's address you being yourself. We're all for it, but we don't want you doing anything to compromise your own security. So don't identify yourself by name, or provide any information that would make it easy for someone else to do so (i.e. a poster who's real-world name is Jane Doe announcing her name rhymes with Shmane Shmoe. Ingenius and hilarious, obvs, but dangerous as well).

Ok, now that we've got your identity (friendly, opinionated, you, but secretly so) down pat, let's talk about your posting habits. Easy start: do not put up any URLS (links).

Slightly trickier, when posting an image ask yourself: am I taking a copyrighted, trademarked or patented picture? For example -- a person wearing a Nike shirt is okay. The Nike logo alone, on the other hand, is not.

Additionally, congrats if you have the good fortune to know Susan Lucci personally -- but private information about public figures cannot be shared.

Lastly -- the big'uns. You cannot advocate ANY illegal activity including but not limited to: child pornography, stalking, sexual assault, fraud, trafficking in obscene or stolen material, drug dealing, theft, copyright infringement, and personal descriptions of illegal activity (e.g., boasting about murder -- stupid AND grounds for banning). Please, no threatening the life or well-being of anyone, or their computers, via the posting or transmitting of a virus.

But really, do any of the above and a message board moderator is the least of your concerns.

To Conclude

You're an adult. You know how to behave, so keep on keepin' on!
